How much do you think a freelancs architectural designer suppose to charge? Hourly ? or percantage of project cost?
I've got a client who wants to remodel a 750sqf house by adding 2 bed and 1 bath approximately 400 to 700 sqf extra to existing house. He wants me to design and also provide plan, elevs, utility plan and perhaps slab plan (architecture set) for this job. I don't know how can I charge him since it's one of my first freelance job. I still have a full time job which they're paying me 40 dollars an houre. I'll appriciate if you can help me out here.
Regards,

750sf x $75/sf = $56,000 construction cost.
You charge 6% to 8% for a house addition.
That means you ask for $3375 to $4480 for doing a set of construction documents.
Thats the math...go figure the rest and adjust to the budget the owner wants to spend on the addition.
So if you can work at the same rate ($40/hr) you will be completing this set of documents in 112 hours maximum.....right? IF you can work faster, lets say you finish everything in 80 hours, then you have made $56/hour... or you may have blown the budget and you will then be working for less per hour. |
