Dated Jan 9, 2004? What's up?
I had not heard of this incident before.

Yeah -- although I'm "old enough to know better," I'm a latecomer to a lot of the news that other world-wise observers have already digested.
In my twenties (the 60's) I dismissed my more cynical friends as paranoid -- for want of a better means of classifying their concerns.
I know better now. . .

the story is of more than historical interest, especially considering the historical revisionist who tried to lie to the American people.
seems that he is at it again, and this time it is more than just making wind - more like creating a draft:

QUOTATION OF THE DAY (NY Times, 6.16.05)
"We have a finite number of troops. But if you pull out of an area and don't leave security forces in it, all you're going to do is leave the door open for them to come back. This is what our lack of combat power has done to us throughout the country."
MAJ. CHRIS KENNEDY, on American efforts to subdue Tal Afar, Iraq.

this is one that I had not heard about - an Israeli assassination attempt of a US Ambassador John Gunther Dean.
Note that this is written by another former US Ambassador Andrew I. Killgore:
