Dear Friends,

Please join us for the Friends of Eugene Annual Meeting featuring
John Fregonese on Thursday evening, September 29, from 7pm to 9pm:

FRIENDS OF EUGENE ANNUAL MEETING
Thursday, September 29, 2004
Public Program 7:00pm to 9:00pm
EWEB Building Community Rooms
500 East Fourth Avenue
Eugene

John Fregonese, nationally renowned community planner with deep
Oregonian roots, will give the keynote speech at the Friends of
Eugene (FoE) annual meeting in Eugene on Thursday, September 29.
The event is free and open to all, with the public program
starting at 7:00pm.

The theme of the annual meeting is "Planning a Sustainable City".
From his key involvement with the successful Portland area Metro
2040 project -- which lead to renowned implementation of
transit-oriented development -- to his recent work with pivotal
regional and urban planning projects in Oregon, Texas, Denver,
Chicago, California, Tennessee, Utah, and Wyoming, John Fregonese of
Fregonese Calthorpe Associates has been a leader in community-based
comprehensive planning.

Fregonese will talk about the global challenges over the next 50
years, setting the context for North America, Oregon and Eugene.
Using examples from current progressive planning practice, Fregonese
will illustrate how communities can grow stronger while shaping
their future. Starting with proactive and extensive community
involvement, backed up by geographic information system (GIS) tools
for analysis and presentation of the facts on the ground,
Fregonese's team helps communities envision, design, and implement
their own profound solutions to the challenges of when, where, and
how to grow.

FoE President Kevin Matthews will open the public program with brief
highlights of FoE's busy year, touching on future directions for
Eugene's leading citizens group on land use, transportation, and
livability issues. A representative of 1000 Friends of Oregon will
talk briefly about their current projects in Eugene and beyond.

A short FoE annual organizational business meeting for voting
(dues-paying) members in good standing, which will include election
of board members to fill open seats, will start at 6:30pm.
