The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has prepared the drawings of the projects that will be taken up by it soon. A commercial complex at Marine Drive is the important among them which is the major source of attraction for Kochi apartments . The authority is planning to build an eight-storey building on a 20-cent site near Asoka Apartments, by the side of the way to Kinco boat jetty. The project will be taken up on a build, own, transfer (BOT) basis.
According to the GCDA officials, the authority will invite expressions of interest for the work by June and at least a year is needed to complete the building. It is expected that the advocates practising at the Kerala High Court will take the cubicles on rent. Drawings of other BOT projects, such as the three-storey shopping-- forum abuse --office complex near Ambedkar Stadium and the 295-sq.m. community hall at Rameswaram, are also ready.
Officials from the authority and the Kochi Corporation visited the proposed site near Ayesha Road along the National Highway on Saturday. The authority had volunteered to take up the project for shifting the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) terminal from Rajaji Road.
The corporation will identify the owners of the 10-acre site at Ponnurunni, so that the authority can enter into negotiations with them for acquisition. Earlier, there was a proposal for converting a coconut grove owned by the Department of Agriculture into the bus terminal. This had to be dropped after the department refused to part with the land.
The plan is to shift the KSRTC services to the new terminal and establish another one by the National Highway for moffussil services. Private buses, now using the terminal at Kaloor, will use the existing KSRTC terminal when the project is completed. |
