I am looking for pictures of drafting rooms from 1900 to 1970 [per CAD]-- large to small-- in the era of manual drafting. Architectural; industrial or whatever, just showing the large ranks of tables, lighting, people, etc.
Please let me know how to retireve them or secure them from you.
Thanks for any help and leads!

Donald, I've been approached about doing a piece [article???] which traces and relates manual drafting attitudes, values, techniques, methods, products, equipment, etc. with what we now have-- and how the evolution came about; and perhaps with a time line of sorts.

Thanks so much for your interest and help!

Still searching and researching, but have the thread of something. Don't know if my benefactor is still on track or not, but....................

Do you agree that there is a correlation between the values gained via manual drafting and the lack of technical expertise in many CAD drawings [as produced by those with little construction knoweldge, no manual experience and hence no "feel" for the drawings]?

No, at the first level, drafting is drafting, whatever the tools, and technical knowledge of construction is something else.

Of course, a good architectural draftsperson will be good at both: skill with the drafting tools at hand (manual of digital), and knowledge of how buildings should go together.

But they are separate. How to rotate a pencil while drawing a long line to keep the line width precise and even has damn little to do with how to keep water out of a wall, or deflection out of a floor, etc.
