I figured that PCADD does not accept JPEGs.
How do you place an image into your drawing?
Do you use an image editor to save your jpeg as a different format? I tried saving it as a PICT, EPS, BMP... PCADD does not recognize the format, says there is not enough memory to load the image or does not have the proper translator. |

I have had no problem placing .jpgs into PowerCADD documents.
I use the command File Menu>Place...
The jpg appears at the cursor location and is sized at 72dpi according to it's actual number of pixels per inch. If you have already sized the image to print at 300dpi, then you scale (Edit Menu>Scale...) the image to 72/300 of how it came in.
The jpg. can be moved to front or sent to back as required to mask other objects or to be masked by other objects. You can (reversibly) crop the image by holding down the Command key and click-dragging a corner.
Beyond that, there are methods that may allow the white pixels to be rendered transparently, methods that allow you to apply QuickTime filters to the selected image, methods to distort bitmaps using WildTools 3-D, etc.
I have had some success with these methods, but usually on a trial and error basis, so I can't advise you how to accomplish these things.
I still don't know the difference between using "Place" to insert an image vs. "Open" or "Import" or just Pasting one into the drawing from the clipboard. The manual might be helpful. Or playing around with different techniques might reveal something useful.
Good luck. |

Any thoughts on why I can't even place a JPEG file into my drawing?
I'm using PCADD 2000 on a MAC OS 10.3 |

According to my PowerCADD 2000 manual, "The Place... command allows you to place PICT, Encapsulated PostScript (EPSF) and paint (bit image) files into PowerCADD drawings."
So I guess you'll need to convert your .JPG's to .PICT's using GraphicConverter or another program. Or upgrade to PowerCADD 6 |

Quicktime was required to make the conversion in older versions of PowerCADD and pre Mac OS X. Without a full install of Quicktime 4.1.x JPEG wasn't supported for Exporting. It's been over 3 years but I faintly recall it also being required for importing/placing. The distinction between a Full and Partial Install of Quicktime was a subtle one that Apple never made clear during the install process but it was a radio button selection which had to be specifically made as it wasn't the default.
Since you're running PowerCADD 2000 in Classic under mac OS X it's unknown what the implications of that are with respect to how Apple handles that QTime conversion process between Classic and OS X.
Certain file types, PICT for example, are supported natively by PCAdd 2000 so if you save the images as PICT vs JPEG from your image editing applications those will place fine.
hope that helps
