People in this online community seem to do a great job overall of positive communications, which helps keep it good. And makes life easier for the forum moderators!
Still, any family can get tense sometimes, so we have posted some "forum etiquette" guidelines previously:
http://fireside.designcommunity.com/topic-4204.html
I'll toss in a couple of other things that I didn't see in there. Both of these (like so many others ) are based on that good old golden rule:
- It isn't polite (except in ocassional rare special cases) to post a mesage that says, "email me the answer at (whatever-at-emailaddress)".
The point of a forum is shared conversation. If you use posting in the forums to get information leads by email, you're taking the conversation private, in effect removing discussion from the community, rather than contributing to it.
- It isn't polite (except in ocassional rare special cases) to tell a forum, where a discussion is naturally ocurring and welcome, that its discussion should really go somewhere else.
If you think there's a better forum for a given discussion, please, it is a free web, go there and discuss. But please don't interfere with positive, relevant, appropriate discussion going on here. If you use posting in the forums to try to divert conversation from here to somewhere else, you're taking conversation away from the community, rather than contributing to it. |
