I know this has been kicked around a little in the past, but......
I plan on purchasing a new machine and because of tax issues, probably before year-end. I'm leaning toward the 24" iMac. My most important criteria for the new machine is speed running PC 8. Obviously, there will be speculation involved, but can the group offer recommendations/suggestions about the 24" iMac vs. (a mid-range cost) Mac desktop machine especially with respect to (future V PC speed?
FWIW: I use PC exclusively for CAD work, probably 20-30 hours/week. My average file size ~1 mg ranging to 10 mg. I often use imported .pdf's and .tiff's in my layouts which seem to slow down PC 7 performance significantly. I do not use 3D apps/functions in my business and don't expect to in the foreseeable future. Historically, I have not needed the 'expandability' offered by a tower, but if there is a significant performance payoff for a better video card, >2 cores, etc. I'll buy one.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated.

I know this is late but if any one else is looking. Bought the Imac.
After 4 Days I sent it back !!!. My old G4 dual 1.25 was way faster. Got the Quad core X 4 processors and it is quite snappy !!!! If you are using it for work you can't be waiting for redraws and saves. I use a lot of CS apps and cross them over into power Cadd drawings for final rendering. No issues now with running 10 apps all at once and jumping around with no waiting.
