Two weeks ago, millions of people in China and Myanmar were living in meager but adequate housing, and today are without homes, and probably 200,000 have been killed, a million injured, millions displaced.
Mother nature is a fickle animal, providing catastrophes and calamities around the globe, while we sit in our nice homes and watch helplessly.
What can we do? The least of what we can do is talk to people, all people, about their lives and their needs.
Against these horrible calamities that are taking place, we just had Jimmy Carter talking to Hamas, and the United States pledging food aid to North Korea.
We can also talk to Iran.
I say this at a time when I know the man-made slaughter that one group will perpetrate on another group, including a recent rocket attack on a shopping mall in Israel, which is truly a sickness in those killer's hearts.
But communicate we must, and at times fight we may have to, but I hope we never lose our sense of humanity towards others.
But for the grace of God, the death and homelessness and tradegy could be our own tomorrow, and we may need their help.
Prayers for China and Myanmar, prayers for Israel and Palestine, prayers for Iraq and Afghanistan, prayers for Darfur and the Sudan, prayers for the world. _________________ Ed Ziomek |
