The United Nations, know for the stable countries it maintains, has decided that even though three UN hostages have been released, the country is still too dangerous for foreigners. Kabul is dangerous, but that's not the motivation here. The country has been designated as too dangerous because it was the United States, and not the UN or France, that liberated it from the Taliban. Had any country other than the United States routed the Taliban, Kofi Annan would be touting Kabul as a tourist destination.
The message is simple: the UN will risk life and limb for dangerous third-world countries, but not Afghanistan. After all, the overwhelming success the United States has had in bringing the Afgans liberty and democracy cannot possibly be recognized by the UN. Considering the UN cut and run from Iraq at the first sign of trouble, we shouldn't expect anything less.
We ought to make them pay their parking tickets and then kick them out of New York City. How about relocating the UN to Paris? |
