Since your report is on living room furniture, I suggest you take a look first at the latest trends in magazines or books. Many of these are online too.
If you need furniture measurements, you could actually head on over to IKEA's web site. www.ikea.com and download one of their brochures in PDF format. There are other furniture manufacturers you can look at too. Design within reach. www.dwr.com. I'm sure others will have their opinions and web sites they can point you to.
Both have fairly modern lines and some traditional lines. So depending on the type of look you are going for, both of these retailers could have something you could use. One tends to be priced fairly affordable and the other is high end.
You need to keep in mind what technology is doing to the living room too.
With the advent of flat screen tvs, many people are mounting them to the walls as opposed to sitting them on consoles.
Keep cultural references in mind when designing your living room. What works in one country obviously may not work in another.
