My wife an I will be moving to Eugene in the next few months. We love living in the city where we can walk to restaurants and of course starbucks. Does anyone know of city apartments we should look into. I'm already going to be looking at Broadway Place and Lincoln School. Any other good ones out there??
Thanks

If you move here, please patronize our many locally owned coffeeshops, not Starbucks. Local business is needed for a local economy and a local culture. Starbucks is the McDonalds of coffee, just another transnational fast food chain that homogenizes the landscape. (One can now see Starbucks logos gracing giant gasoline station signs.)
Arcata, California passed a law banning more franchise outlets -- no more Starbucks, McDonalds, et al. It would be nice to see Eugene do the same before the town looks like every other town.
As for Broadway Place, this parking garage masquerading as an apartment building has a notorious history. The City of Eugene police department tortured protestors who objected to the clearing of the large trees that used to live there -- see the Eugene Weekly coverstory at http://www2.eugeneweekly.com/2002/05_30_02/coverstory.html
In an interesting irony, the company the garage was built (Symantec) closed its downtown Eugene office not long after the garage opened for business. (Symantec's work is now done in India.) The shops on the ground floor have never been fully rented out. It is a sad example of how a partially good idea can be extremely poorly implemented.
The City did have to pay a small compensation to the victims for their torture, but did not change its behavior. _________________ WETLANDS: West Eugene Transportation, Land and Neighborhood Design Solutions
