How do you set out drawing sheets with photos and graphics?

Postby penroyaltea » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:21 am

Firstly I have already graduated, but I never really figured out how to make my designs look that good on paper.

I see really fancy graphics, with shading and textures on the buildings, grey backgrounds on the paper, merging and fading etc

I do a lot of 3d visualisations on sketchup pro and I am pretty good at photoshop.

However, everytime I have tried to either do it as a drawing file and import the images to CAD, or even set it out in photoshop or publisher... it crashes for having too much memory and prints out looking really bad. I can never overlay things... in fact I FAIL lol.
I have tried exporting the line drawing to photoshop and filling it in, but it goes all pixelated and sucks.

This is an example of one I love: ... winter.jpg

how do you do this?

I think I could do this if I could work computers better and knew what programs to use.

:D btw I got my first design on Grand Designs, just want to boast about that to someone!

If your just aiming for a single sheet like the link you posted then I would recommend photoshop, you can edit everyhting in one program then.

However if your doing a whole brochure then try Indesign, it allows you to set templates that can be replicated on each page.

Also when importing pdf's from CAD to photoshop make sure you have the antialiasing tick box unchecked to keep your lines sharp. For some reason I also get problems with this from time to time, just try checking your line weights in CAD and bumping them up a bit if they are coming out too thin in PS.

Hope this helps
